NBA: John Wall, good deed

John Wall has called Washington, D.C., home since being drafted by the Washington Wizards with the No. 1 overall pick in 2010. He has developed a strong bond with the fans and the city over the past few years, so when he has a chance to help the community, he is going to do so.

The 25-year-old Wall recently made a large contribution to Bright Beginnings, a child-development center in Washington that helps out homeless children and families.

According to the Facebook post, the $400,000 donation will go toward building a second development center, which is scheduled to open in 2017.

To show appreciation for the contribution, Bright Beginnings will do a couple of things in Wall's honor. There will be a "John Wall, Wall of Achievement" at the new center that will highlight the accomplishments of the center's students. There will also be a classroom named after Wall.

No matter how much money Wall is making in his contract, he doesn't have to make donations like this. He's doing this because he wants to support a good cause. Any contribution would have been appreciated, but one as large as this should go a long way in helping the center.

Wall is doing what he can to make the D.C. area better. It's always cool to see an athlete connect with the city he plays for, and with this donation, the Wizards point guard continues to show he cares about his city.

Football: Romo Injured

One week after losing Dez Bryant to a foot fracture, the Dallas Cowboys saw their franchise quarterback go down with a serious injury.
The team announced Sunday that Tony Romo suffered a broken left clavicle in the third quarter of their 20-10 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Romo will not undergo surgery, but he's expected to miss about eight weeks, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
Romo landed on his shoulder during a strip sack by linebacker Jordan Hicks. The 35-year-old quarterback previously broke his left clavicle in Week 7 of 2010, forcing him to miss the rest of the season.
"I'll be back," Romo told FOX Sports' Erin Andrews after the game. "It's going to take a little bit of time. It's a broken bone. It is what it is."
Since the injury happened a month earlier this time around, the organization is unlikely to make any rash decisions on his status. More tests will be run on Monday.
With Romo sidelined, Brandon Weedenwill take control of a Cowboys offense that has relied upon a short passing game to control time of possession.
Offensive coordinator Scott Linehan will have to change gears, as Weeden simply doesn't have the touch or field vision for a ball-control passing attack.
The coaching staff did everything they could to limit Weeden's impact in one spot start last season, only to watch their replacement quarterback fail to complete a single pass to a wide receiver in the first half of a losing effort.
Minus 2014 MVP candidate Romo, All Pro wide receiver Bryant and Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray, the Cowboys will struggle to win games for the foreseeable future.

Football: Drew Brees, out for some games

Via: NFL.com
The depressing start to the New Orleans Saints season just got a lot worse.
NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Saints believe quarterback Drew Brees has an injury to his rotator cuff, causing him weakness, pain and discomfort, that likely will cause him to miss games, according to sources with knowledge of the injury. Brees could potentially miss several games, underwent an MRI on Monday and is scheduled to undergo more tests to determine the injury on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to Rapoport.
Rapoport added that his tests will be sent to Dr. James Andrews for a second opinion. The belief is there isn't much structural damage, but they are waiting until Andrews to make a final call.
The news explains why some of Brees' deep throws in a 26-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday looked so poor. Brees took a hit to the shoulder in the second quarter, and didn't have the same arm strength for the rest of the game. He had no juice on his vertical throws.
This is undeniably a dark moment for this Saints franchise. The team's home loss to the Buccaneers was humbling, but not a fluke. Tampa looked like the tougher team up front on both sides of the ball. Their upcoming game in Carolina was shaping up as a huge early season moment for New Orleans. The Saints are staring at an 0-3 record unless backup quarterback Luke McCown can somehow improve a sputtering offense. Third round pick Garrett Grayson is not expected to be ready to play anytime soon, Rapoport reported on NFL Network.
Brees, often a beacon of positivity even when the Saints struggle, was unusually downcast after the game.
"It was if an impostor drone had been sent to the podium as Brees' proxy," longtime New Orleans Picayune writer Jeff Duncan wrote about Brees.
Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters Monday that it was too "early" to tell whether the team might consider sitting Brees down to let him heal.
Brees, Payton and the city of New Orleans have to be feeling sick. They have an offensive line that can't open holes in the running game, and got Brees hit often against a lackluster Tampa pass rush. The Saints' secondary is wildly banged up, and the team doesn't have a natural pass rusher.
The Saints are an organization centered around an offense orchestrated by Brees. They were counting on Brees to carry the team while the talent-poor defense rounded into shape.
Brees has not missed a game to injury since signing with the Saints before the 2006 season. He was coming off shoulder surgery then. Now 36, it's worth wondering how this potential shoulder injury will affect Brees moving forward.
